Reject Haspel and Pompeo Trump’s choices for Director of the CIA - Gina Haspel - and for Secretary of State - Mike Pompeo - both support “enhanced interrogation” i.e. torture. These two do not belong in public office of any kind and certainly should not be considered for these high-level positions. Action: Call your Senators and ask them to oppose the nominations of Gina Haspel for Director of the CIA and Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State. Send a separate message for each one if you have time. Call, email, or fax. Oppose Andrew Wheeler This week, the nomination of Trump’s pick for Deputy Director of the EPA comes up for a final vote in the Senate. Andrew Wheeler is a former coal lobbyist, who has requested policy changes to eliminate the Clean Power Act. He is a climate change denier, and when asked if he would recuse himself as EPA Deputy in matters relating to his former employer’s lawsuit against the EPA, he refused to agree to do so. He has bribed senators to vote for him by hosting fundraisers for them. Trump and Pruitt are already making a mockery of the mission of the EPA - don't allow Wheeler to get on board too. Action: Call your Senators and ask them to oppose the nomination of Andrew Wheeler to the position of Deputy Director of the EPA. Beto O’Rourke Our boy Beto, Congressman from El Paso, recently posted a photo on Instagram of a view from the mountains near El Paso. Here’s what he wrote about the picture: Foreground is El Paso, Texas, USA. In the distance is Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Largest binational community in the Western Hemisphere. Most beautiful place on the planet to me. El Paso is one of the safest cities in America, not in spite of the fact that we are a city of immigrants and connected to Mexico, but because we are the city of destination from people from the world over. We don’t need a wall. We don’t need to send the U.S. military to patrol us. We need to be proud of who we are and what we contribute to the success of this country. We believe these are fine and noble sentiments, which we would like to see reflected by all our representatives in Washington. If you would like to help Beto defeat Ted Cruz for his Senate seat, here’s how you can help …. Join the Beto for Texas Texting Team. Trump Killing DACA The “President” is now tweeting about pulling the plug on DACA completely. Moreover he has recently announced a plan to tie immigration judges’ performance evaluations to the number of deportations they are able to clear in a year. This is an unconstitutional incursion of the executive branch into the judicial. Action: 1. Contact the Justice Department to complain: http://www.justice.gov/doj/webform/your-message-department-justice. 2. Contact The White House to complain: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/#page. 3. Contact your Member of Congress to complain: http://www.house.gov. The latest from our Stable Genius in Chief, who is apparently unaware that DACA is only for people who are here already: Do Your Job, FCC Net Neutrality The FCC seems to be once more accepting online comments about the misnamed “Restoring Internet Freedom” aka “Let’s let the big Internet providers get even bigger and have even more control.” Action: Go to: http://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express In the “Proceedings” box, type: 17-108 and then fill out the rest of the form. Remember we DON’T want to “Restore Internet Freedom” - we want to bring back the net neutrality rules. Sinclair Broadcast Group Sinclair Broadcast Group, which has a monopolistic control over a great number of news outlets, has gone entirely Big Brotherish and has required all its news anchors to parrot a bunch of pro-Trump propaganda, as described in this BBC News article. Action: Complain to the FCC and demand that it step in to end Sinclair’s monopoly, by filling out this complaint form. Or try calling (888) 225-5322. |
