Catch-Up Day Action: If you couldn’t get to it this week yet, today’s the day!

Still Mueller Trump now has Juliani on his legal team. Juliani aims to bring the Mueller investigation to “a conclusion.” Let’s hope that conclusion doesn’t involve sweeping anything under the carpet. Of the two House bills mentioned in yesterday’s Action, the bi-partisan version of the Special Prosecutor Independence and Integrity Act is H.R. 5505, introduced by Charles Dent (R-PA-15) and co-sponsored by four Democrats and four Republicans. Action: 1. Even if you contacted your MoC yesterday, go ahead and call or email again today, asking them to co-sponsor H.R. 5505. If your MoC is already a co-sponsor, thank them. 2. Send a free fax to Rep. Charles Dent, thanking him for introducing this bill: http://faxzero.com/fax_congress/D000604 Mueller, McConnell, etc. Mitch McConnell apparently has his head in the sand and thinks there is “no indication” that Trump will fire Mueller. Fortunately, Senator Grassley (R-IA) doesn’t agree and says he plans for the Judiciary Committee to take up the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act so that it can clear his Committee and be voted on by the whole Senate. Action: 1. Contact Senator Grassley and thank him for shepherding this legislation to protect Mueller. 2. Contact Senator McConnell and ask him to bring the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act up for a floor vote by the whole Senate after it has cleared committee. 3. Even if you have already done so, contact your own senators and ask them to support the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act. 4. Contact your MoC, and ask them to support the related House bills, H.R. 5476 and H.R. 5505. They may already be a co-sponsor, but it doesn’t hurt to let them know you care. Sean Hannity & Fox News Sean Hannity’s connection with Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen is all kinds of fishy and, at best, renders him unsuitable to comment on Cohen on Fox News as he has done in the past. Fox News is defending Hannity and pretending it’s all quite above board. Action: Call Fox News and complain about the inadequacy of their response to the Hannity/Cohen connection: (888) 369-4762 Don’t bother to wait to hear all the options, just select “3” and wait for the next prompt after that. Syrian Missile Strikes Nobody thinks it’s anything other than utterly reprehensible for the Syrian government to have used chemical weapons against its civilians. However, is meeting violence with violence the best or only solution? And is violence coming from a man such as Trump, who doesn’t even know what the moral high ground looks like, let alone how to stand on it, even remotely justifiable? Action: Call your Member of Congress and state your conviction that the best way to combat the evils of the Syrian government are by diplomacy, sanctions, and setting a good example and that a man such as Trump has no right to use lethal weapons, as he is incapable of forming ethical decisions. Starbucks Incident A Philadelphia Starbucks employee recently called the police on two potential customers who sat down to wait for a friend before ordering anything. The employee treated the men like trespassers because they were not Caucasian, and the men ended up being arrested. They were released with no charges having been filed, as they had in fact been behaving completely peaceably and were the victims of racial discrimination. Starbucks is usually a decent company and has apologized for this incident; and of course they cannot monitor the behavior of all their employees in all their branches. However, it is well if they know they are being watched. Action: 1. Call Starbucks to say you were shocked by the incident and that you hope the company follows up its apology with suitable action. (800) 782-7282. 2. Contact the Philadelphia Police Commissioner to complain about the treatment of these two men. Keep Speaking Up for Mueller We need to keep the pressure up to protect Mueller. We should also protest the threat to Assistant AG Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein oversees the Mueller investigation, as Sessions recused himself due to his own connection with the Trump campaign. Trump has insinuated that he would like to fire both Mueller and Rosenstein. Action: Even if you contacted your senators yesterday, call them again today to express your concern and outrage over the threats to Mueller and Rosenstein. Call your MoC with the same message. Stop the evil plot to thwart justice. Protect Mueller Amid concerns that Trump is fixing to fire Mueller, a bipartisan group of senators are introducing legislation to make it more difficult for the President to fire a special counsel. The GOP-controlled Judiciary Committee under Senator Grassley (R-IA) are supportive of this legislation and plan to get it onto their agenda as quickly as possible. Action: Contact your Senators and ask them to support the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act. If one of the senators behind the bill is yours, send them a message of thanks: Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Christopher Coons (D-DE). |
