Trump Goes Off the Deep End In an interview with Axios, Trump has stated that he will end, by executive order, the automatic right to citizenship of all who are born in the United States. As that right is enshrined in the Constitution, his boast is pretty empty, but it shows the lengths to which he will go to play to the anti-immigrant sentiments of his base. Many in the GOP have spoken out against this madness - even Paul Ryan has said Trump has no authority to do this. Action: 1. Contact the White House by phone or email to condemn Trump’s outrageous proposal to end birthright citizenship: www.whitehouse.gov/contact/#page (202) 456-1111 2. If either of your Senators or Member of Congress is Republican, contact them to express your outrage over Trump’s statement and ask them to express theirs. One Week to Go! Campaign offices are grateful for any help offered up to and including Election Day - whether it be phone-banking, going door-to-door, driving voters to the polls, or handing out literature. Many elections will be close, and high voter turnout is important. No need to do anything today, but plan ahead and think about when you can offer help between now and November 6, even if it’s only an hour or two. Action: 1. You can find out via this site: http://ballotpedia.org/Early_voting_dates_by_state,_2018 Khashoggi Action: Contact the Saudi Embassy to censure the Saudi murder of journalist Khashoggi, to demand that they revoke the travel ban on Khashoggi’s family, and that they bring the perpetrators to justice. http://www.saudiembassy.net/contact ACA Further Undermined The Trump administration has introduced a rule change which would allow states to request waivers from some of the Act’s important requirements. Insured patients may find themselves unable to afford healthcare after having been tempted into lower-cost options which do not offer full coverage. The rule change would also leave the ACA pool with sicker customers and thus higher payments. It’s all part of the GOP plan to strangle Obamacare slowly. Action: 1. Contact your Member of Congress and your Senators - Ask them to protest the DHSS rule change and demand that states not be allowed to request waivers. 2. Tweet to Donald Trump to protest the rule change to the ACA - states should not be allowed to request waivers. 3. Tweet to Seema Verma, the Trump administration official for implementing the rule change. Complain! |
