Time Out Perhaps you watched the State of the Union address and are feeling nauseous and jaded. Perhaps you didn’t watch the State of the Union address because you were feeling nauseous and jaded. Perhaps you are feeling discouraged and what’s-the-point-ish. Nil desperandum. Action: Read what 5 Calls has to say about the efficacy and importance of calling your representatives. We call and call and wonder if it has any effect. It’s encouraging to be reminded that many small actions add up to a lot of influence. Read, and take heart: https://5calls.org/about Donation suggestion: Donate to 5 Calls to help them increase their Internet presence and continue their activism: http://secure.actblue.com/donate/5calls-donate End Bribery Beto has done it again - he has outraised Ted Cruz in the fourth quarter of 2017, taking in $2.4 million - not a penny of it from PACs. It CAN be done. If your House or Senate representative accepts PAC and corporate donations - and unless their name is Beto or Bernie, they do - they need to hear from you that this is no longer acceptable. Buying access and influence is bribery. Action: Contact your Senators and your Member of Congress and ask them to pledge to refuse to accept PAC and corporate campaign contributions. www.house.gov www.senate.gov Protect Mueller We recently learned that Trump wanted to fire Mueller last summer. Action: Call your Senators and ask them to protect Mueller so that he can continue to do his job without interference. Saturday - Catch-Up Day! Take care of any emails, voice messages, letters, or donations from this week’s actions which you didn’t get to on the day! DREAM Act The President is trying to do an end-run around the bipartisan Senate efforts at producing a DREAM Act. Trump's devious plan is a proposal which seems to help DREAMers but which also greatly expands his vendetta against immigrants in general. The Senate is working on a much more acceptable, bipartison DREAM Act. Action: 1. Call your Senators and ask them to pass the bipartisan DREAM act NOW and prevent the President from replacing their legislation with his own scurrilous, racist, inhumane plan. Stock Up! We’re going to start writing snail mail again, so make sure you have everything you need ….

Both Democrats and Republicans bear blame for this. Action: 1. Call your Senators and ask them to pass a clean DREAM act NOW, with no strings attached. 2. One of these activists is Ravi Ragbir, Executive Director of New Sanctuary Coalition in New York. Other immigrants rights leaders have been detained, and regular check-ins with ICE have become terrifying events for many people. Action: 1. Contact your Senators and ask them to free Ravi Ragbir, Jean Montrevil, and Eliseo Jurado. 2. Try contacting DHS to demand the release of these same individuals. Their mailbox will probably be full because of the shutdown, but give it a try: (202) 282-8495 Donation suggestion: The National Immigration Law Center has a four-star rating with Charity Navigator.
