Back Pay

Federal employees will receive back pay for the time period when the government was shut down. However, much government work is now outsourced to contractors, and not all contractor employees will receive back pay. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-7) has introduced a bill which would allow these employees to be recompensed.

Action:

Contact your Member of Congress and ask them to support H.R. 678, “To provide back pay to low-wage contractor employees, and for other purposes.” If they are already a cosponsor, thank them.

Background Checks

The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, H.R. 8, was introduced this month by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA-5) and is co-sponsored by 224 Democrats and five Republicans. This Act would mandate background checks for each and every gun sale, with no loopholes.

Action:

Contact your Member of Congress and ask them to support this bill. If your MoC is a co-sponsor, thank them.

Insulin, Day 4

Both  Democrats and Republicans in the Senate agree that something must be done about insulin pricing. A solution to the problem may be slower in arriving because of the two parties’ differences of opinion as to how to solve the issue. So let’s let our senators know that finding a consensus solution to make insulin affordable is more important than ideology.

Action:

1. Contact your senators and ask them to work to find a rapid solution to the problem of insulin pricing.

2. Contact Senator Chuck Grassley and thank him for his leadership in this matter.

Insulin, Day 3

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL-1) has introduced the Insulin Access for All Act of 2019, which would eliminate cost-sharing for insulin for Medicaid and Medicare patients. Under this bill, the cost of insulin for Medicaid and Medicare recipients would be covered in full.

Action:

Ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor and support H.R. 366, the Insulin Access for All Act of 2019. If your MoC is already a co-sponsor, please send them a message of thanks.

Insulin, continued

The cost of insulin in the U.S.A. has skyrocketed in recent years, causing many diabetes sufferers to ration, or go without, the drug - with lethal results. Eli Lilly is one of the major manufacturers of insulin.

Action:

Go to Eli Lilly’s ethics and compliance site and demand that they take immediate action to drastically lower the cost of insulin in the United States.

Insulin

Big pharma greed, combined with inadequate government oversight has caused the cost of insulin in this country to skyrocket in recent years. A diabetic’s supply of insulin costs around six times what it does in Europe. Many are becoming sicker, and some have died as a result.

Action:

1. Sign the American Diabetes Association’s petition:
http://makeinsulinaffordable.org/petition/

2. Share the petition on social media.

Wall Craziness

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH-8) has introduced a bill into Congress which would authorize the Treasury to accept private donations for the purpose of building the wall. The bill has been co-sponsored by 23 other Republicans.

Action:

Contact your Member of Congress to say you OPPOSE H.R. 32, “Buy a Brick, Build the Wall Act of 2019.” If your MoC is one of the cosponsors, tell them they’re nuts.
