Endangered Species Act

In August, the Trump administration announced sweeping changes to the Endangered Species Act which would:
  • make it easier to remove a species from the endangered list;
  • diminish protections for “threatened” species;
  • allow regulators to make an economic calculus to see if certain protections are “worth” keeping in place; and
  • limit the ability to factor in climate change when considering the welfare of threatened or endangered species.
Under the Congressional Review Act, Congress may reverse regulatory actions within 60 days of their enactment, with a simple majority vote in both chambers.
Action:
1.Contact your Senators and your Member of Congress, and ask them to use the Congressional Review Act to reverse the recent changes to the Endangered Species Act.
2. The Natural Defenses Resource Council is working to oppose the regulatory changes. Use this page to send a letter to the president and the Secretary of the Interior. You may also donate to the NDRC, which has a 4-star (max) rating on Charity Navigator.
