Family Separation

The House has just passed H.R. 2203, Homeland Security Improvement Act. The Senate must now vote. This bill:

• prohibits separating children from their parents or legal guardians except in limited circumstances to protect the child, and in such cases, mandates electronic tracking of separated family members.
• establishes a commission to investigate handling of migrant families and children at the border;
• establishes an Ombudsman to deal with complaints against border security activities;
• provides for additional training of border security officers and mandates the use of body cameras;
• stops the implementation of rules limiting asylum applications; and
• requires a Government Accountability Office report on migrant deaths.

Action:

1. Contact your Senators and ask them to support H.R. 2203, Homeland Security Improvement Act.

2. If your MoC voted for the bill, thank them. If you wish, you may also yell at them if they voted against.
