Palm Oil

The harvesting of palm oil causes immense environmental degradation unless it is carried out sustainably. Palm oil is used in a great number of products, and unless sustainable practices are adopted by the majority of producers, irreversible damage will be done, including the extinction of species. If palm oil is listed as an ingredient, you can be sure that it is not from a sustainable source unless the label clearly states that it is.

Action:

One of our favorite snack-makers is Snyders of Hanover, but alas some of their products contain palm oil, with no mention of sustainability. Send an email asking them to pledge to only use sources which employ sustainable methods: http://slletsconnect.com/snyders-of-hanover/.
OR
Look for a guilty palm oil label on another product you use regularly, and contact the producer.
