Jeff Sessions and Russia

Wednesday’s Washington Post revealed that, during his confirmation hearings, Jeff Sessions lied under oath about his contact with Russia during the campaign.  As attorney general, Sessions oversees the ongoing investigations of the FBI and the Justice Department into Putin’s election meddling and the ties between Trump and Russia; he has been caught lying about the very matter he is supposed to be scrutinizing. Thankfully, on Thursday after three leading Republicans called for him to recuse himself, he agreed to do so. These Republicans are Congressmen Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Senator Rob Portman (R-OH).  

We have already taken action regarding Sessions, but in the light of these recent events, it would be timely to reiterate our concerns. Call or fax your Senators and House representatives to call for:​
​

• Sessions’ resignation and his replacement with a nominee of impeccable ethical credentials; tell your Democrat reps to keep holding the administration’s feet to the fire; and if your rep is GOP, stress that we need to figure out who’s ethical and who’s not - there are many Republicans who would serve honorably in the position of AG - we don’t need to settle for less than squeaky clean;
• the appointment of an independent special prosecutor at the Justice Department; and
• the appointment of a bi-partisan select committee to investigate Putin’s ties to Trump and his attempts to interfere with our election.
