Gun Control End the Dickey Amendment The Dickey Amendment is the source of the infamous prohibition on the CDC’s ability to study or research the effects of gun violence on public health. The Amendment was added to a spending bill in 1996 and prohibits the CDC from using any of their injury prevention funding for research that "advocate[s] or promote[s] gun control.” Last year, Stephanie Murphy (D-CA) introduced HR 1478 to repeal the Dickey Amendment. Since the Parkland shooting, this bill is gaining bipartisan support. Action Contact your MoC and ask them to support HR 1478, the Gun Violence Research Act. Or thank them if they are already a co-sponsor. Donation Suggestion: MoveOn plans to erect billboards to show how much money members of Congress receive from the NRA. If you’d like to help fund this, you can donate here: https://act.moveon.org/donate/stop-the-nra-billboards?suggested_ask=3&utm_medium=email&source=email_reg&t=2&akid=200986%2E10220574%2EORAaKO
