What Time Is It? Time for Single Payer! Here’s what Senator Cornyn (R-TX) wrote in response to a recent email: "This legislative proposal seeks to improve our current system by placing patients, their families, and their doctors at the center of health care decisions, rather than government bureaucrats. (John Cornyn, email, July 8, 2017.)" As we ALL KNOW, the problem with our current health care system is NOT that government places itself at the center of health care decisions - the problem is that INSURANCE COMPANIES place themselves at the center of health care decisions and that FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS place themselves at the center of health care decisions. And that both insurance companies and financial considerations lead to people NOT receiving the care they need. The GOP MUST NOT BE PERMITTED to continue this tired old line that government doesn’t belong in health care decisions. That is not, and has never been, the problem. If insurance companies stopped making health care decisions for patients, many fewer people would be sick. Action: 1. Call your Senators and ask for a single-payer health care system via an expansion of Medicaid or Medicare, along the lines of Australia, whose health care system has been publicly praised by our very own president. 2. If your senator is Democrat, demand that they call out the GOP for their lame repetition of the no-government-between-doctor-and-patient line. If your senator is Republican, demand that they stop saying such stupid things - they’re not fooling anyone.
