The new Congress is making gun control a priority. HR 8 calls for universal background checks, closing the loophole which allows private and gun-show sales to bypass the National Instant Criminal Check System. The bill was introduced by a Democrat (Thompson, CA) and a Republican (King, NY), and four other Republicans have also co-sponsored the bill - Smith (NJ), Upton (MI), Mast (FL), and Fitzpatrick (PA).
Contact your Member of Congress and say how thankful you are to see meaningful gun safety legislation coming down the pipeline and that you expect them to vote in favor of HR 8. If you are a constituent of one of the Republicans who co-sponsored the measure, send them a special message of thanks.
