Urgent

  • The NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007 (NIAA) requires Federal agencies to provide relevant records to the Attorney General for inclusion in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
  • In an attempt to close loopholes in this act, a later rule* was added which required that Social Security disability recipients who were deemed unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” should be added to the federal background check system.
  • The House has already passed HJ Resolution 40 to repeal this rule. The Senate is about to put the same issue to the vote - SJ Resolution 14. We need to oppose the resolution and prevent the Senate from removing this safety measure.

So, back to your senators, folks -

1.   Call your senator and ask him/her to VOTE NO on SJ Resolution 14.

2.   And while you’re at it, remind them that you are still opposed to the nomination of Steve
Pruitt for Secretary of the EPA. If your senator is a Democrat, ask them to stall this nomination
by using all available procedural delaying tactics.

* This rule has mistakenly been called “The Social Security Gun Ban.” More info at Snopes.
