U.S. Maternal Mortality Rate The United States has the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world. In order to try to understand, analyse, and remedy this unfortunate state of affairs, Rep. Jaime Herrera Butler (R-WA-3) introduced the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act of 2017, H.R. 1318. This act would direct HHS to make grants to states for the purposes of reviewing and reporting on all maternal deaths, making this information publicly available, and identifying solutions. The bill also directs HHS to eliminate disparities in maternal health outcomes. This is a bipartisan bill, cosponsored by 185 representatives, and is scheduled for a vote this week. Action: Contact your Member of Congress to say that you hope they will vote for H.R. 1318 and that you look forward to seeing it enacted. If your MoC is a cosponsor, thank them.
