Trump Plans to Cut Immigration


Trump is supporting a bill which would cut legal immigration in half within the next ten years. The reduction in numbers would be achieved by drastically curtailing the ability of existing immigrants to bring family members into the country.

The bill, S. 354, the RAISE (Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment) Act, was introduced by Senators Tom Cotton (R-AK) and David Perdue (R-GA). It’s a piece of political grandstanding, designed to divert attention from the rich-getting-richer by blaming immigrants for lack of employment, which is simply false. Senator Lindsey Graham has said that the bill would devastate the economy of agricultural areas, which depend largely on immigrant labor, as well as the hospitality industry. And of course it would divide families.

Action:

1. Contact your senators and ask them to oppose S. 354.

2. Contact Senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue to tell them you don’t like their bill. Also tell them it has a really stupid name.

3. Contact the White House to say you don’t want to curtail immigration.

4. Contact Lindsey Graham and thank him for speaking out against S. 354.
