Electoral College Reform Continued

Yesterday we talked about the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

Ten states (and the District of Columbia), with EC votes totalling 165, have already pledged their Electoral College votes to the winner of the popular vote (if and only if enough other states, whose EC votes total at least 270, pass similar legislation).  Twelve additional states, whose EC votes total 96, have passed a National Popular Vote bill in one of their two legislative chambers. Some additional states have introduced legislation.

Action:            

• Go to the National Popular Vote website and click on your state. That will take you to a page which will tell you about any upcoming or ongoing legislation. 
• Click on the links and follow through with any suggested actions.
• Even if your state has already passed the legislation, there may be an action to take. For example, California is looking for a joint senate resolution to support their existing NPV bill.
• If your state has already passed an NPV bill, consider writing to your Governor, and/or State Senator, and/or House Representative saying how pleased and proud you are to live in a state which has passed a National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and that you look forward to seeing the fruits of this legislation in future national elections.
• Consider sharing with your local friends whatever local action you take.
