According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a leading advocate of common sense measures to address America's gun violence epidemic, ~40% of all gun purchases occur in "no questions asked" transactions that often take place over the Internet or at gun shows where, in most states, background checks are not required. Current legislation (H.R. 3411) pending in the U.S. House of Representatives would solve this problem by expanding background checks to all gun sales, including sales made over the Internet and at gun shows. ACTION: Contact your House rep and ask your rep to support H.R. 3411. If your rep doesn't support H.R. 3411, remind your rep that 1) between 80-90% of Americans (depending on the poll) support a federal law requiring background checks and 2) the 2018 elections are coming up and you and your friends and family aren't very happy with him/her...

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. According to a report by the CDC, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner every day in the United States. 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 4 men will experience physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Action: As part of this month, cities across America are signing a proclamation stating that they stand against domestic violence. Email your city government and tell them to do the same. ACA Contraceptive Mandate
This past week, Trump rolled back the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate. These new regulations could make it so that employers are able to deny hundreds of thousands of women access to birth control. Action: Let congress know that you believe decisions about a woman's health should not be made by their employers. Sign a petition, or call your congressman and let them know that your vote is dependent on their support of accessible women's healthcare. Plan of ACTION - October 6, 2017
