Election Security Trump’s DHS has gutted two task forces in its Cyber Security Infrastructure Agency which were assigned the mission of preventing foreign interference in our elections, whether directly or by spreading fake news on social media. Given that the administration knows full well the extent of Russian interference in 2016, their insouciance about fully staffing the agencies tasked with preventing a further occurrence suggests that they simply don’t care. Action: Contact your representatives and the White House to complain about the staff cuts in the DHS’s Cyber Security Infrastructure Agency and demand a full accounting of how DHS plans to prevent future interference. www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

In the words of Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, “The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country.” Action: Tell Trump is he an idiot. If you’re feeling irenic, you could also congratulate him on signing the spending bill. www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ (202) 456-1111 twitter.com/POTUS Glad Tidings! The Senate has just passed sweeping conservation legislation which includes measures to protect millions of acres of wilderness and hundreds of miles of rivers, to establish four new national monuments, and to permanently remove 340,000 acres of national park land from mining. It was a truly bipartisan bill and passed the Senate 92-8. Action: If your Senator was one of the 92 who voted in favor of S. 47, Natural Resources Management Act, contact them to say thank you! If your Senator was one of the 8 who voted against the bill, give them a piece of your mind! www.senate.gov/senators/contact Bipartisan Border Deal Even Republicans (except for a few die-hards) are sick of Trump’s wall mania standing in the way of an agreement to prevent a shutdown. The house may vote later today on a bipartisan deal to keep the government open and throw Trump a few bucks to play with. Trump is likely to (reluctantly) sign the deal. Action: Call your MoC and ask them to vote for the bipartisan border security deal and prevent a shutdown. Green New Deal, Reprise Green New Deal in the House is H. Res. 109. There are 67 cosponsors. Green New Deal in the Senate is S. Res. 59. There are 11 cosponsors. Action: 1. Contact your MoC - if they are a cosponsor, thank them; if not, ask them to cosponsor H.Res. 109, “Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal.” 2. Contact your Senators - if they are cosponsors, thank them; if not, ask them to cosponsor. S. Res. 59, “Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal.” Green New Deal Grinches might say it’s all pie in the sky, but Ocasio- Cortez et al’s Green New Deal plan sets the course of the United States towards safer shores than the perilous rocks we are current sailing towards. As a non-binding resolution, the plan, if passed, would not have the force of law, but it would focus legislators on a series of vital environmental, economic, and social goals. Here is a link to the text of the resolution: ocasio-cortez.house.gov/sites/ocasio-cortez.house.gov/files/Resolution%20on%20a%20Green%20New%20Deal.pdf Action: Contact your MoC and ask them to support the Green New Deal plan. |
